Abstract:
Based on the perspective of earthquake researchers, we summarized the difficulties of the earthquake forecast and prediction, and analyzed the relationship between natural seismology and social seismology. In the current situation, we discussed the anti-interference ability and the stability of the instruments, talent team construction, the relationship between daily work and the scientific research requirements, the insufficient confidence of earthquake prediction and forecast, scientific research and earthquake prediction/forecast, and etc. Finally, we provided some preliminary suggestions and ideas.
A suggestion of including slip vectors in the beachball presentation of a focal mechanism
Zhao Zhonghe, Mu Leiyu
2018, (1): 11-16. doi: 10.3969/j.issn.0253-4975.2018.01.006
Abstract:
A suggestion is made that the slip vector(s) should be included in the beachball presentation of a focal mechanism, so that the characteristics of the earthquake fault could be presented more intuitively. Two examples showing the beachball presentation in the Matlab environment are given in this paper, one with real data and one with synthetic data.

2018, (1): 17-20. doi: 10.3969/j.issn.0253-4975.2018.01.031
Abstract:
The coseismic effect of water-level in subsurface fluid observation is the most direct reflect of seismic wave acting on well-aquifer system, start the research of water-level of coseismic response characteristics and response mechanism, can better explain the relationship between groundwater dynamics and stressed aquifer. In this paper, we take Wuji well as an example, by selecting the water-level data of coseismic effect in 2016.Combine with the wellbore condition of Wuji well, trough the preliminary analysis of the type of coseismic effect and reaction mechanism of Wuji well.
Introduction and analysis of foreign strong motion database
Fan Yuan, Hu Jinjun, Xie Lili
2018, (1): 21-29. doi: 10.3969/j.issn.0253-4975.2018.01.008
Abstract:
The strong motion data provide the input for the engineering seismic research. How to select the appropriate records is an important problem in the field of earthquake engineering. This paper introduces and summarizes 6 commonly used global databases, which were provided by PEER, USGS and COSMOS in the United States, K-NET and KiK-net in Japan, ITACA in Italy, TR-NSMN in Turkey, and GeoNet in New Zealand. This paper introduces background and purpose, history and characteristics of these databases. By comparing the distribution of stations and data, we divide the databases into two groups: global database and regional database. PEER, COSMOS databases are classified as global database, whereas others are regional databases. In addition, according to the time distribution of earthquake parameters and other provided parameters, we decide the application scope of the different database in order to provide a reference for selecting the appropriate database for different directions of scientific research and engineering applications.
Modern earthquake science research in China began at the end of Emperor Guangxu
Gao Jizong, Zhou Baijia, Su Yan
2018, (1): 30-35. doi: 10.3969/j.issn.0253-4975.2018.01.009
Abstract:
Eight volumes, list of earthquakes, collected in Shanghai library were Chinese version of the volume I of the list of China's major earthquakes in French published in 1909. List of earthquakes, original manuscript of Huang Bolu, undoubtedly shows that modern earthquake science research in China began in the late years of the end of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing dynasty (1906—1908).
